Hong Kong still a baby on free election or the democracy they always dream for. Have a look on other those democracy countries from South East Asian, Europe and Arab. Some of them still live in uncertainty even they given right to elect their own leader. We need freedom and democracy but definitely not as US has promoted, US as double standard country allowing an illegal practice to other country or state, promoting underground terrorism, CIA penetration to other sovereign and government system. It seems creating chaos is how US to stay and maintain its power. US so called democracy government are fully control by rich group which believes money and power, the poors are those brainwash by their lies. From Taiwan, Hong Kong, uyghur, Tibet… by selling its freedom value even himself not even as freedom as it SHOULD. Bunch of president scandals from Clinton, hillary and now trump. What a shame to a first super power and yet keep still pointing finger accusing other faults. Bs

Chinese elite power holders have no problem killing off 10s of millions of it's own citizens again and again and again. History to prove it.

People of HK, with this victory of so-called democracy, can now heal somewhat of their superstitions. "We understand that most people of HK are very upset with current situation and worried about the future", it was the comment of Starry Lee, which expresses the absurdity. The problem never existed for real, but in the imagination. HK should look at Shenzhen, and see how awesome things look like, without smashed streets and riots. I hope they wont have a reasons now to continue protests any longer, and things get into normal. New government may be celebrating today, but leading HK is not easy. First, damage must be repaired, and things back into the motion. They could claim victory, but they should make things for people to live better, and become truly satisfied. They have hard task to improve HK economy and reduce gap between rich and poor. HK people don't have any other problem beside common problems associated with crony capitalism. Except they belong to China, and they wanna deny that. So, actually its not that China does not respect autonomy of HK, its completely reverse: HK neglect fact that its a city of China. And West fed these protests with money and support, with one evil goal: to approve the chaos and cause permanent damage and threaten the bright future of HK and China. But things could really become great, if HK finally come to senses and start to function normal again, cooperating with the Beijing.

"We believe that governments were instituted of God for the benefit of man; and that he holds men accountable for their acts in relation to them, both in making laws and administering them, for the good and safety of society.

We believe that no government can exist in peace, except such laws are framed and held inviolate as will secure to each individual the free exercise of conscience, the right and control of property, and the protection of life."

The election process was there before the protests. HK citizens have the rights to elect their representatives all along. They just never exercised their rights 🤷🏻‍♀️ Hmmm interesting… they are celebrating something they never lost… what a crazy world

China is actually not all Chinese as the west sees it , there are many minorities that would clamor for autonomy and independence ala 1991 soviet style if China let Hong Kong go its own way. They also have Taiwan to keep scaring so its precarious for the dictatorship.
